Gran Colombia is a term used by historians to refer to the Republic of Colombia established between 1819 and 1831. It is used to avoid confusion with the current Republic of Colombia. Gran Colombia was formed by Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador and Panama.

There are many stereotypes about Latinos, like the one that says that “Latinos are lazy.” In the United States, faced with the mass arrests and deportations of undocumented migrants (mainly Latin Americans) carried out by the ICE several protests were held in Los Angeles to denounce, on the one hand, the unjustified deportations of working immigrants, on the other hand, the far-right rhetoric that too often compares Latin American migrants to drug traffickers or criminals.

On May 12, 2025, in an interview with Bloomberg, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that Colombia would join China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), becoming the twenty-first Latin American country to integrate the project.
